But the Ottawa Senators president of hockey operations and general manager makes no secret of the fact he wants veteran winger Claude Giroux back with the club next season.

Staios told the 37-year-old Giroux as much during the exit meetings on Saturday at the Canadian Tire Centre.

“I won’t talk about contract negotiations but we love (Giroux), we want to have him back,” Staios said on Monday. “We touched on it briefly at the exit meetings. Everything is still fresh right now.”

During the regular season, Giroux had 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points in 81 games. During the playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the winger had five points in six games.
