Brooks Koepka withdrew from LIV Golf’s stop in Dallas through illness after smashing a tee box marker in frustration.

Koepka had only played eight holes of the opening round at Maridoe Golf Club before deciding to call it quits.

The American, 35, has reportedly been feeling under the weather all week and had gotten off to an horrific start.

The four-time major champion was already six-over par for his round, with a card that contained two triple bogeys and one birdie.

Koepka walked out of the $25m tournament after hitting an erratic drive down the ninth hole.

His golf ball went left towards the trees and a furious Koepka then slammed his driver into the ground before taking a swipe at a tee box marker.

Masters champion Rory McIlroy was criticised for a similar outburst during the 2025 US Open and was likely fined.

LIV Golf’s media team announced that Koepka might still compete in either the second or third round, though his score will only count towards the team’s total. He was substituted in the field by Luis Carrera.

Koepka’s exit marked the first of three lineup changes on the opening day of the PIF-backed league’s ninth event of the 2025 season.

Prior to the start of play, his former teammate Matthew Wolff withdrew due to injury, with Ollie Schniederjans stepping in as a replacement.

Additionally, Frederik Kjettrup of the Cleeks was unable to continue because of injury and was replaced by Max Rottluff.
