Cheers erupted through the stands at T-Mobile Park today as former Seattle Mariners ace Félix Hernández, affectionately known to fans as “King Félix,” made a surprise appearance — and an even more surprising announcement.

The Mariners organization officially revealed that Hernández has returned to the team, not as a player, but as their new Senior Consultant for Pitching Development.

“Seattle has always been my home,” Hernández said with a smile during the press conference. “I may not be on the mound anymore, but I’m excited to help build the next generation of great Mariners pitchers.”

Fans in attendance at the special event were treated to a highlight reel of Hernández’s most iconic moments — from his 2012 perfect game to the emotional farewell in 2019. The crowd roared as the King waved and donned a Mariners jersey once more, this time with ‘Consultant’ stitched beneath his legendary No. 34.

Mariners General Manager Justin Hollander praised the move, noting that Hernández’s “deep understanding of the game, fierce competitive spirit, and lifelong loyalty to the Mariners organization” made him the perfect fit for the role.

“Félix is more than just a former player,” Hollander said. “He’s a symbol of Mariners baseball. Having him back in the clubhouse will inspire every pitcher who dreams of wearing the M.”

The announcement marks another emotional chapter in Seattle’s ongoing connection with one of its most beloved sports figures. While Hernández’s days of striking out batters are behind him, fans say the King’s return ensures that his legacy — and his crown — remain firmly in Seattle.
