Steve Williams responds when asked if he’d become Tiger Woods’ caddie again

Since his split from Woods, Williams has caddied for Adam Scott, but also took Ryan Fox’s bag on occasion as well.

However, he is obviously most famous from his time spent with the great Tiger Woods.

Despite their acrimonious split in 2011, the man from New Zealand clearly still has a lot of respect for the 15-time major champion.

Williams was speaking on The High Performance podcast about his time caddying for Woods.

First up, he was asked when he last spoke to Woods:

“I was at the Los Angeles Open in 2023 and I had a good chat to Tiger there. I actually ran into him in the hotel and he was in the locker room there, so not that long ago.

“It was good. We all know that time heals, we talk about that in all sports and all sorts of relationship. Time heals and it does.“

And then the New Zealander responded when asked what he would say if Tiger asked him to take his bag again:

“Yeah, I’m in. How would you not?“

What Steve Williams said about why Tiger Woods decided to fire him

The pair went their separate ways back in 2011.

And Williams opened up on the reason behind Tiger’s decision to part ways with him, as quoted via CBS Sports:

“I wouldn’t say it was painful. It was just disappointing. In a nutshell Adam Scott wanted me to caddie for him, I said yes. Tiger did not want me to do it. I thought that was a bit strange, it’s not that big a deal. I would go and caddie if it’s Adam. Tiger’s agent then said if you go and do that you won’t be working with Tiger and I thought no, there’s no way. And that’s what happened. I went to caddie for Adam while Tiger was injured and that was the end of it. It was just more disappointing that I didn’t read the situation right. I just didn’t think that would happen. But when you caddie there is no contract, you work for somebody and they can end it any time. That is just the way it crumbled. I wasn’t angry, I was just disappointed.“

Both parties obviously felt wronged at the time. However, as Williams mentioned earlier, time is in fact a great healer.

Could we see Tiger Woods and Steve Williams working together again at some point in the future? Stranger things have certainly happened before.
