In that time, she has covered every player and coach since before the team moved to Baltimore. Over time, MKC has developed a reputation for loaded questions oftentimes leading to soundbites. It’s often the questions that any fan would know has a low probability of getting answered. When it comes to Shedeur Sanders, who’s arguably the best media trained rookie in NFL history, she shouldโve known he not reveal anything beyond the field.
To be fair, Cabot does not hold that job this long without providing something to the role. When it comes to reporting facts like injury reports, inactives, direct comments given by players and coaches, she does a fine job. There is no reason to view her reports skeptically. Unless itโs in regards to interpreting what is seen as opposed to information given.
People can say whatever theyโd like about Sanders on the field, but one thing that is not up for debate is that he is media trained. The Sanders kid known as โGrownโ does not fall for media tricks. Heโs not going to get tripped up with how a question is asked. He certainly is not going to take the bait when Shedeur knows it. Here was the exchange after Tuesday’s practice.
Sanders: “Yeah I don’t know what’s going on. So I’m not here to talk about Pops and them. I’m here to be the Quarterback of the Cleveland Browns.”
MKC: “But do you kinda have to let your feet be where they are? I’m sure that would be a worry to you if you let yourself think about it?”
Sanders: “I’m focused on learning this playbook and everything I need to do to be the most successful quarterback I could be. And be the best teammate I can be. Outside of that, I don’t really have any thoughts on anything outside this game.”
There is no scenario where Cabot would be breaking the health concern news to Shedeur about Deion. There is also no scenario where Shedeur would not anticipate this question coming, nor would he ever consider giving the answer she was fishing for.
Long before Shedeur arrived in Cleveland, he was prepared for Deion questions. While he is in camp vying for a role within the Quarterback room, Shedeur is not going to invite any commentary that takes the attention away from the task at hand.
