In a packed press conference at the Cats’ training facility this afternoon, head coach Chris Scott dropped a bombshell that sent shockwaves through the AFL community. After nine seasons at the helm, Scott revealed that he has accepted a “once‑in‑a‑lifetime” opportunity to become the new head coach of the expansion team, the Tasmania Devils, set to enter the competition in 2027.
Scott, who guided Geelong to three premierships (2011, 2020, 2022) and built a reputation as one of the league’s most respected strategists, said the decision was “one of the toughest I’ve ever had to make.” He added, “I love this club, the players, the supporters and the Barwon River community, but this is a chance to build something from the ground up and I couldn’t ignore it.”
